Taiko as Performing Art
Taiko is not just a genre of music to listen to, but also something to see and relish: Taiko drums are played with the typical dynamism and rigour of Japanese arts and gestures are an integrant part of the performance.
Gestures and body movements create beauty and balance into the rhythmic piece: this is a performing way very connected to Japanese arts’ traditions.
Playing Taiko drums requires intensive physical and technical skills and a lot of training, coordination between mind and body, synchrony and harmony among players.
Who attends a Taiko performance is struck by the intensity of the sound and by the stamina of performers.
When we play Taiko we express the spirit of Japanese music, moving with precision and intensity; it makes us explode our own energy, playing as we were painting our own inner dream, committing our all forces and soul’s power.
There will be created rhythms that will awake into our heart the primitive breath of the life.
